Featured PDC Registered 2 star pole dancing instructor Angela Hawkes.
Angela Hawkes is one of our latest PDC registered instructors and she has just set up her own pole school in Fareham and Gosport, UK, called Paradise Fitness. We spoke to Angela to find out more about her and her new venture.
"I started pole dancing 2 years ago (2010) and like so many others, totally fell in love with it. So much so that I decided to open my own pole school! The great motivation for me is getting satisfaction from learning a new move and the challenge of working on the next, knowing that you can achieve what once seemed impossible if you keep trying!
What I found even more rewarding is being able to help others feel this same sense of achievement through pole. I got my first taste of teaching through the school where I originally trained, Partipole in Havant (owned by Karen Harris). When instructor Charlie Babb became pregnant I assisted her with teaching for 4 months and received great feedback from the students, and loved the opportunity to pass on what I had learned to support their pole challenges. This gave me the drive to complete my qualifications in Exercise to music, Pole Fitness (with Vertical Dance) and First aid at work. I also recently completed my level 4 grading with the PDC.
I have continued to develop my own skills and knowledge through a combination of workshops, masterclasses and private lessons with well known pole teachers. Not only does this ensure I have a continual new range of techniques, moves and combinations to show my students, I feel it makes me a better teacher to understand learning new moves from the students point of view, and also I discover more ways to break a move down into teachable parts, as no two students learn in the same way! The bonus is I get to do more of what I love, which is pole!

Angela's Private Lesson History:
I find competitions are a great way to really push yourself and to train with an end goal in mind, and look forward to supporting any of my students who look at entering in competitions. In 2012, I took part in the Northern Pole Princess and SWAPP which was a great learning experience. Next year I am looking to enter further competitions, to continue attending workshops and private lessons, and to complete my Level 5 grading. And of course train hard and work on my flexibility!
Paradise Fitness offers group and private classes in Fareham and Gosport, private classes in your own home (discounted within 20 miles of Portsmouth) and parties.
